FAAC Welding & Fabrication: The Newport Beach Owner’s Guide

If your FAAC gate has a cracked hinge, a sheared weld on the opener bracket, or a rusted-through section of steel near the salt line, we can repair or fabricate the replacement and have it installed, usually for $350 to $1,200 depending on the part and how much custom work it needs. Most fabrication jobs in Newport Beach are completed within 2 to 4 business days, and we come to you. The typical sign that a welded part has failed is a gate that sags, drags, or makes a grinding noise at one specific point in its travel. You might also see a visible crack running through a weld bead or a bracket that has pulled loose from the gate frame, leaving the opener to push against nothing but air.

We see this on FAAC gates all over Newport Beach, from Lido Isle to Corona del Mar to the back lots of Dover Shores. The ocean air accelerates it, but the real culprit is usually fatigue. A gate swings thousands of times a year, and every cycle puts stress on the same handful of welds. When one lets go, the gate still works, but it works wrong, leaning on the opener, fighting the hinges, and wearing out parts that should have lasted another decade. Here is what you need to know to get it fixed right.

Which FAAC Models This Applies To

The welded and fabricated parts on a FAAC system fall into a few distinct categories, and the fix depends on which one you have. The most common are opener mounting brackets, articulated arm brackets, hinge assemblies, and gate frame sections that have cracked or corroded. On FAAC C720, C721, 391, 400, 412, 415, 770, and 844 series operators, the mounting plate that bolts to the gate post is often the first weld to fail on the gate side, especially if the gate was ever hit by a car or forced open by hand. The operator itself rarely fails at a weld. The steel around it does.

Here is a compatibility gotcha most owners do not discover until the new part is in hand: FAAC hinge spacing and pivot geometry changed between older 400-series installations and newer 770/844-series installs. A hinge assembly that visually matches may sit a half-inch off, which is enough to make the gate bind. We measure the gate before we quote, not after. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: FAAC’s original brackets are well-built, but for a coastal Newport Beach property, a quality aftermarket bracket in 316 stainless often outlasts the original mild-steel part by years. We stock both and will tell you which makes sense for your gate, your exposure, and your budget.

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate sags toward the latch side, and you can see daylight under the hinge pin. A hinge weld has stretched or cracked, and the gate is now hanging off the opener instead of the post. Left alone, it will pull the opener bracket off next.
  • The opener makes a hard knock or clunk at the start or end of each cycle. The mounting bracket has worked loose from the frame, and the operator is slamming against its own mount instead of moving the gate smoothly. This is the noise of a weld that is already broken.
  • You find rust staining running down from a weld joint, especially near the bottom rail. Salt air in Newport Beach eats the weld bead first because the heat-affected zone around the weld is more corrosion-prone than the surrounding steel. Once the stain appears, the section is already thin.
  • The gate shudders or vibrates as it travels, then smooths out. A cracked frame section is flexing under load, and the opener is fighting a gate that no longer moves like one solid piece. The vibration is the crack opening and closing.
  • The opener works, but the gate only moves partway before stopping or reversing. A bent or broken bracket has changed the geometry of the arm, and the opener’s safety logic is reading the added resistance as an obstruction.

Any one of these is worth a call. All of them together means the gate is running on borrowed time, and every cycle is doing more damage.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Newport Beach FAAC gates, here is what a typical welded or fabricated repair runs, installed:

  • Opener mounting bracket repair or replacement: $350 to $550, including grinding out the old weld, fabricating or fitting the new bracket, and re-welding in place.
  • Hinge assembly repair or replacement, per hinge: $250 to $450, depending on whether we can re-weld the existing barrel or need to build a new hinge from stock.
  • Gate frame crack repair, per section: $300 to $600, including cleaning, grinding, welding, and reinforcing with a gusset where the design allows.
  • Custom fabrication (replacement arm, bracket, or frame section): $400 to $1,200, priced by the part, material, and complexity.

The range is driven by three things: how much of the old weld has to be cut out, whether we are working in mild steel or stainless, and how much disassembly the gate needs to reach the repair safely. Every quote is given up front, agreed to before we touch the gate, and includes the welding, the grinding, primer, and a rust-inhibiting finish on the repaired area. The labor and the part are both covered by our 90-Day Done Right Promise. If the weld does not hold, we come back and make it right. No paperwork, no arguing.

DIY or Call Us?

What you can safely do yourself is look. Walk the gate line, check the welds and brackets for visible cracks or rust staining, and press on the gate to see if it moves at the hinge or the opener mount. That takes five minutes and tells you a lot. What you should not do is attempt to weld a gate bracket or hinge yourself. A gate under tension or load can shift while you are working on it, and a bad weld on a moving gate is a genuine safety hazard for you, your family, and anyone walking through the opening. The same goes for grinding and cutting near an energized opener. If the part is cracked, bent, or coming loose, that is the time to pick up the phone. Call us at (760) 852-5601. We will give you a straight answer, an honest price, and we will be there when we say.
