Elite Access Control Installation: The Newport Beach Owner’s Guide

Most Elite access control jobs in Newport Beach run between $450 and $1,400 installed, depending on whether we’re swapping a failed keypad, replacing a receiver board, or running an entirely new entry system. We keep the common Elite parts on our trucks, so most repairs and replacements happen in a single visit. The typical call starts the same way: the keypad stopped responding after a coastal rain, the remote quit working from forty feet away, or the gate works fine one day and won’t talk to anything the next.

Call (760) 852-5601

What homeowners usually find is that the gate itself still moves. The motor is fine. It’s the communication layer that failed: the thing that tells the gate to open when you punch in a code or press a button. That’s where Elite systems, especially older ones, show their age first. Salt air does not do electronics any favors, and Newport Beach has plenty of both.

Which Elite Models This Applies To

We service and install access control across the full Elite line: the SL-3000, SL-3000XP, and the Mirage series are the ones we see most often in Newport Beach driveways. If you’re unsure which model you have, the label is usually inside the control box or on the motor housing itself. The model number is printed right on it, not stamped into the metal.

The thing to know about Elite is that their control boards changed over the years, and not all keypads and receivers talk to all boards. A keypad that works with a 2012 Elite SL-3000 will not necessarily play nice with a newer Mirage board, even if the plug looks the same. That’s the compatibility gotcha we run into more than any other. We keep OEM Elite parts in stock where it matters most: receiver boards, keypads, and the little wiring harnesses that corrode first. For discontinued or backordered Elite components, we use proven aftermarket equivalents that match the voltage and signal spec exactly. Nothing gets installed on your gate that hasn’t been tested on the bench before it goes on the driveway.

Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing

  • Keypad works intermittently, usually after rain. Moisture is getting into the housing or the wiring connections. Newport Beach’s ocean air accelerates this. Corrosion builds on the terminals, and the signal gets weak and unreliable.
  • Remote range drops to nearly nothing. You now have to be standing almost at the gate for the remote to work. The receiver board is losing sensitivity, which happens over time, or the antenna wire has come loose inside the control box.
  • The gate opens but won’t close with the remote or keypad. This is often a safety-loop issue tied to the access control wiring, not the motor. The system thinks something is in the way and refuses the close command.
  • You hear a click at the control box but nothing happens. The signal is reaching the board, but the relay is shot. That click is the relay trying to fire. It happens most on older Elite boards that have cycled thousands of times.
  • Codes stopped working entirely, but the manual button still opens the gate. When the manual release works and everything else fails, it’s almost always the receiver or the keypad itself. The good news: that’s the easiest and least expensive part of the system to replace.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Most Elite access control work in Newport Beach falls into three tiers: a keypad replacement runs $450 to $650 installed, a receiver board swap runs $550 to $850, and a full keypad-plus-receiver replacement in a new housing runs $900 to $1,400. The final number depends on which model you have, how much wiring has to be redone, and whether the old housing can be reused. Every price is quoted and agreed in writing before a single bolt gets turned, so the bill never surprises you after the work is done. Parts and labor are itemized separately. And the whole job is covered by our 90-Day Done Right Promise: if it isn’t right, we come back and make it right. No paperwork, no arguing.

DIY or Call Us?

There are two things an owner can safely check before calling us. First, look at the keypad display. If it’s blank or flickering, the batteries or the low-voltage feed are usually the problem. Second, walk around and look for obvious damage: a cracked housing, a loose wire at the antenna, water stains inside the keypad cover. Those are diagnosis tasks, not repair tasks.

What we’d rather you not do is open the control box and start swapping wires if you’re not sure what you’re looking at. Elite boards run on low voltage, but the gate motor beside them does not. One wrong connection, and you go from a $600 keypad swap to a $1,800 motor replacement. If you’ve checked the basics and it still isn’t working, call us at (760) 852-5601. We’ll tell you honestly what it sounds like over the phone, and if it needs a visit, we’ll be there when we say.
