DIY or Call Us?
There are two safe things to check yourself before calling: the batteries in a wireless keypad, and the breaker or power switch on a wired intercom. If fresh batteries and a reset don’t restore the keypad, that’s diagnostic, not a fix, and it’s time to call. Where DIY goes wrong on Mighty Mule keypads is in pairing and wiring. The Mighty Mule pairing sequence has rewritten itself through the years, and pairing instructions for an old FM135 don’t match an MM371. If you pair the wrong model’s instructions to your board, you can lock the control board into a state that rejects the old keypad AND the new one until it’s reset correctly. On wired intercoms, reversing polarity at the terminal block can take out the control board’s transformer, a much bigger invoice than the intercom was. These units run on low voltage and are safe to handle, but the failure modes are real when the wiring is guessed at.
